My name is Valentina Voronkova
I am living in the most beautiful state in the USA, Washington state, with its lavish evergreen forests, majestic mountains and boundless Pacific Ocean. The nature that surrounds me is an inspiration and my hero. I love Plain Air sessions as well as still life with fresh flowers. I am fascinated about natures transient beauty so in my work I try to eternalize it. I like quick sessions, that last 2-3h and the A la Prima method, that is direct painting. It is my day light art. However, I am incline also to the invisible side of human subconscious, dream world of night. I tried to express this unseen world in my "modern figurative" collection of works.
My affair with Art started in another country in a city of Art and Imagination, St. Petersburg, Russia. I entered the St. Petersburg University to pursue a Master Degree in Biophysics. However by the end of my university study I became more and more fascinated with Art. The Art was everywhere. It was in great museums, such as Hermitage and Museum of Russian art, in the beautiful architecture of St. Petersburg and in the rebellious spirit of my artist friends. They introduced me to the underground movement of modern art which was forbidden by the regime. The shows in this movement were almost held in secret but were really exiting. They gathered a huge crowd of independently thinking youth. I began attending the famous Evening School of Mukhin Institute of Art and Design and in addition at night I tried to do my own art. Several of my paintings from that period of time were bought by art collectors from Germany and England.
In USA at the beginning I continued to lead the life of a double agent, serving to the Science and secretly being in love with Art. While I was in the PhD program in the Biochemistry department at UW, I took all of the Printmaking courses available in the UW art department. After earning my PhD degree I worked as a scientific researcher at UW, Seattle BioMed and the Institute for Environmental Health.
By the year 2012 my unfinished dialog with art became very loud and I decided to continue it as a full time student at Mark O’Higgins atelier at Gage Academy of Art, Seattle. I studied two years at his amazing atelier.
Now I am working in my studio and also with different PlainAir groups in our region.
My works were shown at Gage gallery; Axis gallery, Seattle, WA ;and Vernissage Gallery, Seattle, WA where I had personal show. My paintings were bought by art collectors from different countries including USA, Russia, Germany and England.
